Academy School Counselors Ms. Gallo and Dr. Borin, along with Fitness and Wellness Teacher, Mrs. Broesler, enhanced their wellness skills at the recent Wellness Summit sponsored by the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools and the Association for Delaware Valley Independent Schools.
The day-long program hosted hundreds of educators and administrators from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Programs focused on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), the latest in resiliency curriculums, and how to attend to the holistic development of all students.
Dr. Borin also presented on "Celebrating Student Resilience Using Narrative Medicine and the Contemplative Arts." In her presentation, she offered the use of story and the arts as a way to help students tap into their own sense of relaxation and strength.
Participants were given the chance to paint with watercolor and explore the metaphor of Kintsugi Art, or “Golden Joinery,” as a way to highlight one's healing and resilience.
Both Ms. Gallo and Mrs. Broesler participated in the presentation and will be using their knowledge with our students. Ms. Gallo will focus on helping students to navigate self and relationship awareness during Freshman Seminar classes, while Mrs. Broesler has been incorporating stress reduction techniques into her Fitness and Wellness classes to assist students navigate various life challenges.
